Brief description about the event: Workshop on, “Design of Residential Building using STAAD.Pro” had conducted by the Department of Civil Engineering by the resource person Mr. DAVE Edwards (BOLD Enterprises), Mr. M. Jayaram and Mr. MG PAVANIL Branch manager, Canter CADD, Suchitra, Hyderabad-500067, for one day workshop i.e. on 26th February 2020, spoken about the importance of the department achieving and objectives. Mr. Dave Edwards emphasized on the software called Auto Caad. The art and design that goes into making buildings is known as "architecture". To communicate all aspects of the shape or design, detail drawings are used. In this field, the term plan is often used when referring to the full section view of these drawings as viewed from three feet above finished floor to show the locations of doorways, windows, stairwells, etc. Architectural drawings describe and document an architect's design.
Mr. M. Jayaram Explained about Residential Buildings and Advanced Concrete Design work flow provides direct access for STAAD.Pro models to leverage the power of the STAAD application. This is a standalone application, which is operated outside the STAAD.Pro environment, but requires a model and results data from a suitable analysis. The model should typically be formed from beams and columns (plates are currently not supported). STAAD can be used to design the following objects: Pile Caps, Footings, Columns and walls, Beams, Slabs. It can make use of various forms of analysis from the traditional static analysis to more recent analysis methods like p-delta analysis, geometric non-linear analysis, Pushover analysis (Static-Non Linear Analysis) or a buckling analysis. It can also make use of various forms of dynamic analysis methods from time history analysis to response spectrum analysis.


Name of the event: Industrial Visit to “Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratories”

Brief description about the event: Students of IV B. Tech - I semester, Section A and B of Civil Engineering Department along with the faculties Mr V. Amarnadh and Ms K. Gayathri, of St. Martin’s Engineering College, Dhulapally attended Industrial visit to “Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratories” on 29th October 2019 with a total of 28 students. Guest lecture was delivered by eminent Mrs. B.Venkata Ramana, Assistant Executive Engineer, and Government of Telangana.
Mrs. B.Venkata Ramana explained about proto type models of Kaleswaram project, there she explained about the importance of the proto type models in the field of construction. Students able to understand how the proto type models are helpful while constructing the major construction projects and also students able to visualize the real construction project after the completion of the explanation on proto type models .Students visited Hydraulics Machinery laboratory, Soil Mechanics laboratory and Materials laboratory where students got examples of dimensional analysis and a demonstration of proto type working.
Highlight of the visit was students were able to witness the revolutionary changes in the field of civil engineering because Telangana State Engineering Research Laboratories established in the year 1945. This Industrial Visit is very much helpful to the Civil Engineering students in learning the challenges in large eminent projects which would be helpful in their future.


Name of the event: Site Visit to Sundilla Barrage, Lower Manair Dam and Ranganayakulu Sagar Dam

Brief description about the event: Students of II B.Tech-I semester, section A & B of Civil Engineering department accompanied by three faculty namely Mr. T. Sai Krishna Teja , Ms. Sandhya Kiran .J.K and Mr. G. Siva Vignan, of St. Martin’s Engineering College, Dhulapally visited significant irrigation projects of Telangana state on 21st September 2019 with a total of 45 students. The field trip started early morning from college and first halt was at “Sundilla Barrage in Karimnagar district” which has 1.5 km span with 74 gates, with a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 130 meters and a gross storage of 8.8 Thousand Million Cubic feet (TMC) of water. Students were briefed by Mr. Vishveshwar Rao, Assistant Executive Engineer, Department of Irrigation Engineering, about the engineering details of the structure and also how water at Sundilla Barrage is lifted from Annaram Barrage and deliverd to Yellampally Barrage which is LINK-I of Kaleshwaram irrigation project. Later the trip included visit to “Lower Manair Dam at Karimnagar” and “Ranganayakulu Sagar Reservoir at Siddipet”. Students acquired the knowledge of functioning of barrages and principles behind working of pumps.


Name of the event: Guest Lecture on “Challenges in design and construction of world tallest bridge on railway tracks”

Brief description about the event: Students of III and IV B.Tech - I semester, section A & B of Civil Engineering department along with the faculties, of St. Martin’s Engineering College, Dhulapally attended Guest Lecture on “Challenges in design and construction of world’s tallest bridge on railway tracks” on 19th September 2019 with a total of 126 students at Vivekananda Seminar hall. Guest lecture was delivered by eminent Er. Saibaba Ankala, Chief Engineer, South – East Central Railway, Indian Railways, Government of India.
He spoke about world’s tallest bridge on railway track at Manipur which is very prestigious project of GOI under construction with the cost of Rs. 14,400 crores. He explained about the consequences that are faced by the Civil Engineers during construction and also delivered information about the utilization of latest LIDAR technology for surveying at forest, hills and valleys before starting of this construction of railway bridge. This lecture is very much helpful to the Civil Engineering students, how they can face challenges in large eminent projects in their future.

STAC offers enlightenment to advanced core subjects of civil engineering by programmes such as guest lectures, workshops, field trips it also encourages them to participate in in-house technical competitions such as technical quizzes, model expo’s , tech- fest etc


Name of the event: ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON “INTERIOR AND SPACE PLANNING FOR OFFICES AND RESIDENTIAL BUILDINGS”

Brief description about the event: Mrs.Jayaradha Shankar ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR Osmania University, delivered lecture on 31/11/2018. She addressed the students of SMEC regarding space planning and also lectured on beautifying and planning pleasant interiors. 280 students were part of the guest lecture. All faculty members accompanied the students for the guest lecture. Students were enough curious throughout the lecture and gained knowledge regarding the same. She explained the students regarding AutoCAD, isometric views dimension which are vital for space planning and comfort the occupant as well. The course held during the guest lecture motivated the students and served the purpose of deepen knowledge in design area.


Name of the event: Industrial Visit to significant irrigation projects of Telangana State

Brief description about the event: The field trip started early in the morning from college and first halt was at “Sundilla Barrage in Karimnagar district” which has 1.5km span with 74 gates, with a Full Reservoir Level (FRL) of 130 meters and a gross storage of 5TMC of water. Students were briefed by the chief engineer about the engineering details of the structure.
Students got a real time exposure to the field projects being built inspite of environment obstacles. The trip was allowed students to gain vivid understanding of their core subjective.
Later the trip included visit to “Kaleswaram Lift Irrigation at Shayampet in Warangal District” which is world’s 2nd largest pump house, claimed to be costliest irrigation project to be taken up by state where students had got the real demonstration of how project progress inspite of complications. Demonstration of provision for lifting at least 2TMC of water on daily basis by utilizing 126MW by 7 huge pumps designed to operate was examined by students at the tunnel.
Though it was a strenuous trip, students chose to learn keenly and benefitted by the overall experience. The trip was conducted under Institute of India student chapter, S.M.E.C.
